About Us

Many paths, one circle.

Earth-based spirituality. Shared experience. Personal freedom.

Our Path to Recovery

San Francisco Pagans in Recovery brings together the principles of 12-step recovery and the spiritual traditions of those who honor the Earth, its cycles, and the interconnectedness of all life.

Many of us have found that conventional religious language does not always reflect our understanding of spirituality.

We believe the Twelve Steps can be approached through a variety of spiritual perspectives, without losing their essential purpose: helping us find freedom from addiction and live more honest, meaningful, and connected lives.

Many Paths, One Circle

Our fellowship welcomes people who identify as witches, Wiccans, Druids, Heathens, polytheists, occultists, Pagans, or practitioners of other earth-based traditions.

We also welcome those who are exploring their spirituality, questioning their beliefs, or simply looking for a recovery community where they can feel at home.

For some, a Higher Power may be a Goddess, God, the Elements, ancestors, or Nature. For others, it may be the collective wisdom and strength of the recovery fellowship.

We do not insist on one definition.

Recovery Without Surrendering Our Power

We understand that asking for help is not the same as giving away our personal power.

Recovery teaches us that we need not face our struggles alone. Through honesty, willingness, accountability, and connection, we can discover strengths that isolation and addiction once concealed.

We seek to live in harmony with ourselves, with one another, and with the world around us.

Our Guiding Values

Compassion, personal responsibility, confidentiality, spiritual freedom, service, and respect for the many paths that bring us together.

Pagans in Recovery

Preamble

Pagans in Recovery is a 12-step fellowship based on the example pioneered by Alcoholics Anonymous. Our wish is to assure people seeking recovery that they can recover without having to accept anyone else’s beliefs or to deny their own. We welcome those who worship or work with one or more Goddesses, Gods, Spirits, Energies, Powers, or Ancestors, and whose spirituality may include magical practices.

Pagans In Recovery does not engage in any conflict or controversy, and we are not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization, or institution. Our primary purpose is to help one another and ourselves to achieve and maintain recovery. We are not specific to any individual Twelve-Step program, nor do we wish to compete with or replace them. Rather, Pagans in Recovery is available to all who need it, to be used in conjunction with more targeted Twelve Step programs that address each person’s specific issues.

Because of this diversity of our community, we define recovery in multiple ways. As such, the recovery language used in our meetings, for example “sobriety”, is left up to each individual.

Blessed be.
